As you'd know if you read my older posts, it's not all fun and games here. There's a reason I refer to L.U.S. as a junk drawer blog (at least that's my excuse for letting this blog wander where it will ...). So, departing for now from the world of humor, here's a couple of DIY projects I've been doing lately. I completed three projects, actually, one a Mother's Day present that I already covered in A Dull Roar.

So, how about you? Do you have any recent DIY projects you'd like to share in the comments?
The rolling chair base
The first was out of necessity, the second one out of convenience. My office chair's plastic base broke into pieces one day and my attempt to patch it lasted about a week before it too gave way. As long as I had the welding gear out I set about to make a sturdy unbreakable wheeled base from steel. I only had to buy once piece of scrap, the 2.5" pipe in which the chair lift sits. The set screw and a couple shims keep the mast vertical.
Vertical whiteboard stand
The next project was a stand for my 4' whiteboard. We're a little short on wall space since we have a lot of large windows. No place to hang the whiteboard where I will keep my endless (motivational) lists! Really a pretty simple project. The biggest challenge was getting the uprights square in two dimensions. It's such a small project I didn't want to spend time building a jig, but I managed with a couple scraps of steel and clamps. It's quite convenient as I can move it around wherever it's needed! That's it from the LUS DIY corner. So, how about you? Do you have any recent DIY projects you'd like to share in the comments?

I love doing little projects around the house but I have never tried welding anything.
ReplyDeleteI have done some sot-erring thats the closest I have done to welding.
Was that easily done?
Soldering is a lot easier than welding. I didn't know how to weld before coming to Costa Rica, so I taught myself with a little long-distance help from a friend in the States who is an expert welder. It takes a lot of practice, special equipment, knowledge about different kinds of welding rod, etc. But now that I can do it I make a lot of things from steel as it's much faster and very sturdy.
DeleteCame accross your blog and thought you deserved a Liebster award:

Thanks Lanthie! I think you are the second person to nominate me. I have to look into that award, because I heard it's some work, ha ha! Take care.
Deletereally cool
ReplyDeleteThis is the good thing of having a knowledge on DIY. There's a lot of DIY projects on the net where we can get an idea. at least we know what to do if there are some minor cases that needed to fix.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the tips - Welding supply store
ReplyDeleteHi,
ReplyDeleteI have a quick question about your blog, do you think you could e-mail me?
Brian
It’s very fulfilling to see some stuff around in your house that was made with your own hands! I can make crafts, but I haven’t tried welding. I can’t wait to make my first DIY welding project too!
